Hello Team Taekwondo Members,
The latest:
-
Welcome to our newest members Anthony,
Justine and Breena. Anthony is a former black belt from another club and
trains at our day classes. Breena and Justine train in our
senior beginner classes.
-
Well done to all who represented our club
at the recent Taekwondo demonstration at Chermside shopping centre. A good
time was had by all (Andrea, Scott, Erin, Steven and Sarah) and they did us
all proud.
-
Congratulations to the juniors who
qualified for the sparring team. We're going to have a great year with lots
of tournaments to try out our new skills.
-
Eileen and Loryn have kindly volunteered to form the base of the Team Taekwondo social
committee. The goal of the committee is to raise funds to help students and
their parents with competition fees (travel, accommodation, entry fees etc) and
also to organise and help pay for social events. If you would like to be a part
of the social committee, or would like to contribute in some way, we have a
meeting organised for this coming Sunday at 4pm at Loryn's house (we will
let you know the address at training). Please bring a small plate of
something along for nibbles. Should be fun!
-
Marketing ideas - We are always looking for good marketing ideas to increase our
membership base. It could be something like placing flyers at your work or
school, a sausage sizzle in a high traffic area, a Taekwondo demonstration
at a school function, an information stand at a fete etc. Thanks to a Team
Member's idea (Sarah) we are now listed with the free Our Brisbane website. If you spot any
potential opportunities or if there is anything you would like to do, or if
you have any ideas, please discuss it with David or Andrea, or the social
committee.
-
The new Training Times are now available on this
website, or for those of us not on the internet you can grab a paper copy in
the usual spot at training. Please note these times take effect as of this
coming Monday, 23rd Jan. We will be running two brand new classes. A Poomse
class for those interested in competition poomse and Little Ninjas for 4,5
and 6 year olds.
-
Our good friend Michael Hill (black belt) will be away from training for a
week or so due to an injury. He tried to add a bit of extra spice to his
cooking by chopping into his finger. He'll be sporting a couple of stitches
for a while and we wish him a speedy recovery.
-
Manul's birthday party at the 10 pin bowling centre was a big hit (get it,
Ha,Ha) Don't worry I won't give up my day job. Happy birthday mate!

Hello Team Taekwondo Members,
The latest:
-
Happy New Year and welcome back Team
Taekwondo Members. We hope you enjoyed your new years celebrations and are looking
forward to the new year as much as we are. We have a jam packed year for
you including state and national competitions for both sparring and
poomse, everyone gets a new training syllabus, we'll be having new beginners classes for your friends and other
new members to train in, we'll be forming a junior sparring team (The
Dragons), we'll also be forming a social committee to organise social
events and fundraising for members, we'll be holding 4 gradings
throughout the year with Ray from Melbourne, and there will undoubtedly
be more news as we go. Wow! I'm exhausted just talking about it! But at
the same time we are also
very excited because we know the things we're doing are having a positive impact
on the club and our
members, and really, that's why we're here! We will keep you informed of
all the details as we go along with member updates. With so much going
on this year we would suggest keeping future updates somewhere handy to
refer to, or at least you may want to consider writing down important
dates, especially for those of us not on the internet.
-
Sparring - Team Trials for juniors will be
held this Saturday at 10.30. As with all our sparring training we would
like members to arrive at least 10 minutes before class to gear up. Your
dobok is not required (unless you'd like to wear it) We would suggest
wearing cool, comfortable clothing. We will supply the body shields but
each member wishing to join will be required to have their own arm and
leg guards, and boys will also need a groin guard. A complete set is $50
for boys and $36 for girls. These guards will not be necessary for the
first two training sessions as we will not be sparring as such until the
third week. As we've motioned before, sparring training is much more
physically demanding than regular training and there is a minimum
standard required, hence the trials. It would be irresponsible of us to
enter your child into a tournament knowing their fitness is not to the
standard required and expect them hold their own against a competitor
from another club. We are not so concerned about injury (Taekwondo is a
very safe sport, especially for juniors where there are no head kicks)
but rather being defeated badly because of fitness could break their
spirit. Members who do not make the cut, or members who are unable to
attend the trials will have an opportunity to complete a fitness and
skills test. These trials will only take about 10 minutes and will be
conducted just before junior sparring training on any given Saturday (By
appointment) We would encourage members who do not make it the first
time to keep trying out. Some of the best fighters in Australia didn't
start out as "naturals." In some cases they started out way behind their
piers. Consistent effort of trying to "make it" developed mental toughness
and that has seen them through all the way to the top.
-
Sparring - Seniors. Team Sparring was formed
late last year but new members are most welcome. To qualify you must
complete the same fitness and skills test as the juniors. You will have
an opportunity to do this on any Saturday before senior sparring
training (By Appointment)
-
Insurance - Good news from Taekwondo
Australia. Insurance premiums will remain the same for 2006 which is a
saving in real terms. Whilst some sports are having to deal with
increasingly higher insurance premiums, Taekwondo Australia has managed
to broker a deal with it's underwriters to hold premiums for 2006. We
have renewal forms for all members. You will need to fill these out and
hand them back to us, along with the fee, by the end of January. This
premium will cover you for a full year.

Hello Team Taekwondo Members,
The latest:
-
Merry Christmas everyone. Whatever your
plans are over the Christmas break we hope you have a wonderful time and
please stay safe. The last four months (since opening) have been
fantastic thanks to all the great people at the club. Thanks for your
support, enthusiasm and friendship. Andrea and I look forward to seeing
everyone again in the new year and by all indications it's going to be a
big one!
-
Just a reminder the last day of training for
this year is Thursday 22nd, and the first training back is Tuesday 3rd
Jan.
-
We will be introducing the Dragons (junior
sparring team) next year. Sparring is not compulsory and doesn't suit
everybody but those who do compete generally tend to love it!
Sparring training is very physically demanding, much more than regular
training, so we will be conducting trials on the first Saturday of
January to give members an idea of what will be expected of them and
they can then decide if it's something they'd like to do. Sparring
training is a love of mine and I enjoyed great success as a specialised
sparring coach at my previous club in Victoria and I'm sure we can do
the same thing here.
-
We are introducing a "Refer A Friend"
promotion to help fill the new beginners classes starting in January.
We're asking for your help, our valued members, to spread the word to
your friends as to the benefits of being a member. We have printed special
"Refer A Friend / Free Training" pamphlets to make it easy and we'll be
giving away Team Caps to you, our members, to show our appreciation.
The process can work a number of ways 1, you can give the pamphlet to a
friend and they can fill out the details and present it at their first
free training, 2, You can fill out the pamphlet with your friends
details and hand it to us and we will then call your friend to book them
in for their first free lesson, 3, Your friend can call us and we will
fill out all the details and book them in for their first free lesson,
or 4, just bring them along to training and we will get all the details
on the day. Each member will receive 3 pamphlets with their name on them
as the referring member. If you'd like more please let us know.
Thanks and I値l see you at
training, David Vernon.

Hello Team Taekwondo Members,
The latest:
-
Welcome to our newest member
Loryn Einstein.
-
Congratulations to
all who graded and a big thank you to everyone
who helped out on the day, especially to Ray who flew up from Melbourne
just for the grading. The day was a great success and Ray gave it his
big stamp of approval.
-
The 6 black belts gave their
vote for best grading in each category and I can tell you it was very
close. Three out of the four categories were a dead tie between the top
two and it was left to Ray and Robyn to decide the winners. That's a
testament to the high standard of the grading. After a deliberation it
was decided this way: Best grading Senior 9th Gup - Andrew Brown, best
grading Senior 8th Gup - Scott Somerton, best grading Senior 7th Gup -
Scott Somerton, best grading Junior 8th Gup - Dhanul Kottagodage.
-
The
team leaders were also announced on the
day and they went to: Senior Yellow - Scott Somerton & Erin Staib,
Junior Yellow - Dhanul Kottagodage & Ryleigh Power. Congratulations and
well deserved! Team leaders will hold their position until the next
grading when new team leaders will be announced.
-
It's going to be a hot
summer if you haven't already guessed! Even though we are
air-conditioning we've decided to give our members a choice of dress to
make them more comfortable.
DOBOK PANTS & BELT IS STILL COMPULSORY but
members will have three choices for "top wear". The choices are 1- dobok
top, 2 - team shirt, 3 - plain white
t-shirt (no other colour will be accepted). Sparring trainings' dress
code will remain the same and that's pretty much whatever you want to
wear.
-
The
current timetable will remain the same up until 2006 at which time
the new 2006 timetable will take effect.
Thanks and I値l see you at
training, David Vernon.

Welcome to our newest member
Caitlin.
-
Just a reminder to all those
grading December 11th. All paperwork and fees need to be submitted by
Thursday 8th December at the very latest or unfortunately you will have
to miss this grading.
-
A great time was had by all
at the Team Christmas Party. A big thanks to
Eileen for hosting the party and also thanks to Loryn and Garth for the
"pass the parcel" game. It was great to see that Team Taekwondo really
has become a family club.
-
The
new timetable for 2006 is now available including the extra holiday
timeslots for juniors during the day and also the new permanent
beginners classes.
-
If you know of someone who
you think may be interested in having a go at Taekwondo at this
fantastic club of yours, junior or senior, January would be a perfect
time to introduce them with the specialised beginner classes we'll be
running from then on.
-
Team Taekwondo will be
taking a break over the holidays between Christmas and the new year.
Last training will be Thursday 22nd December and the first training back
is Tuesday 3rd January.
-
Team Taekwondo now have
exciting newly designed Team Shirts for
sale. They can be worn to Sparring Training
or just for casual wear. As with all of our products they are priced as
close to wholesale as possible. Team Wear
is not a money making venture but rather a way to create team spirit,
unity and a way to get the club name out there.
Thanks and I値l see you at
training, David Vernon.

Hello Team Taekwondo Members,
The latest:
-
Welcome to our newest members
Andrew and Stephanie.
-
We will be announcing the
names of the "Team
Leaders" at the December grading. One male and one female will be
chosen from the yellow belt divisions, both
junior and senior, who we feel will uphold the clubs high standards,
can act as role models, and have the character to take on leadership
roles. We will be considering students who train consistently, posses a
positive training attitude, and share the clubs aspirations of helping
their fellow team mates. All of our students have these qualities in
varying degrees but we are looking for the ones who stand out the most.
Each person selected will hold their position for a three month period
at the end of which (at the following grading) two new students from each
division will be chosen. Students can be awarded "Team Leader" more than
once but there must be at least a three month gap between appointments.
The "Team Leaders" names will be displayed on a specially made plaque
mounted to the wall of the dojang.
-
Team Taekwondo now has
large training bags for sale, designed to carry all of your training
gear. Check out Team Wear.
-
The grading advise checklist
is now available at training. Please grab a copy so that you don't miss
out on grading.
Thanks and I値l see you at
training, David Vernon.

The Team Taekwondo Christmas
Party will be held on Saturday 26th November at Eileen and Keane's home,
The club really appreciates Eileen's gracious offer to host the party,
thank you! All Team Members and their families are most welcome. Further
details will be made available to you at training. Please note that the
Saturday morning training for that weekend will run as normal.
-
We have made a couple of
small timetable changes. Saturday senior fight training has been
extended and is now 8.45am to 10.15am (I can hear the groans already).
This will give us the extra time we need to hone our basic skills as
well as focusing more on advanced sparring tactics. The Saturday grading
class has been moved 15 minutes back (now 10.30am - 11.15am). Remember
this is an all ages, all levels grading class and is open to anyone
wishing to practice for their up coming grading in December.
Thanks and I値l see you at
training, David Vernon.

Hello Team Taekwondo Members,

Welcome to our newest member
Gabriel Inastra.
-
An open invitation has been
extended for anyone wishing to join the "Walkers Group." They leave 5pm
sharp Tuesdays and Thursdays.
-
We now have Team Caps for
sale. Click on "TEAM WEAR" for more details.
-
The first part of every
Tuesday's Junior training will be specifically set aside for grading
rehearsal, up until the December grading. Now that we have a good
mixture of white and yellow belts we feel it is important that each
group has a clear understanding of what will be required of them at
grading.
Thanks and I値l see you at
training, David Vernon.

December Grading:
The December grading will be
held at Club Coops on Sunday 11th at 10am through till around12.30pm. We are
privileged to have a very special guest in attendance. Ray Povh from Hansu
Taekwondo in Victoria is flying up especially to be a part of the grading
panel. Ray will also be helping us out with the Saturday training (the day
before grading). The timetable for that Saturday will be altered to benefit
the people grading. The training times will be Juniors 10.15am - 11.10am and
Seniors 11.15am - 12.15am. We would encourage everyone who can make it to
come along to the Saturday training to meet Ray, and also it will be the
very last practice before grading.

training, David Vernon.

Just a quick note to keep
you updated on what痴 happening at the club.
-
Firstly I壇 like to
extend a warm welcome our new members, Sam, Keane, Emily and Natriya.

Congratulations to all
those who have graded for their yellow belt recently, well done!
-
The next grading will
be in early December, only two short months away. The exact date will be
announced in the next few days.

We are now running a
Team Sparring training session for seniors who wish to compete in the
sporting side of Taekwondo. A junior Team Sparring session will be
announced sometime in the future.

received your new Team Taekwondo Badge please let David know at
training.
Thanks and I値l see you at
