Club
Policies
Please be aware that the club policies are there to help with the
smooth running of a fast growing club.
Bearing that in mind there needs to be flexibility built into the
system to accommodate changes and as yet unforeseen circumstances.
In other words, the club's policies may be added to, or changed,
or exceptions made from time to time due to current circumstances.

Sparring
and Competition
Sparring
101:
Anyone can
attend (except Little Ninjas)
There is no
obligation for frequency of training, if at all, in other words, just come and
go as you please.
There is one
strict rule – you need to be at training on time (10.45 Sat) so we can all be
shielded and padded up, ready to go at 11am. If you are running late, please do
not attend this class.
Dragon’s
Sparring:
This is a
high performance training session. Only selected members may attend.
Dragons must
attend their general belt specific training sessions at least once a week to be
eligible for Dragons Sparring Classes.
Dragon's will receive a
"Team Dragons" badge to be sewn onto their dobok once they have
competed at a tournament.

The strict
start time also applies.
Only members from the Dragon’s Sparring Team can be
selected to participate in a sparring tournament.
Dragons Sparring
Attendance - Juniors
The
very nature of our sport requires us to be extremely fit, skilled and confident.
The sparring attendance requirement is designed to ensure that you or your child
can perform to the level required to be competitive at tournaments.
Dragon’s sparring
competitors are required to attend at least ¾’s of the Wednesday training
sessions if they wish to compete at any given tournament.
Friday
night Dragon's Matchplay:
Only Sparring Dragon's
may attend.
Dragon’s
Poomse
The Poomse
classes are for members who either wish to compete at a tournament or wish to
gain advancement for their grading. Attendance is optional and the class is open
to all members except Little Ninjas.
Only people
attending this class may compete at tournaments although exceptions can be made
in exceptional circumstances ie: If it is impossible for you to make the class and
you have a high enough skill level to compete.
Eligibility to
participate at tournaments is not an automatic process. You must be selected by
the Poomse instructor in order to compete.
Dragon's will receive a
"Team Dragons" badge to be sewn onto their dobok once they have
competed at a tournament.

Grading
Eligibility
Each term,
Team Taekwondo conducts gradings where by members can advance to the next belt
level.
To be
eligible to grade members must first collect all of their relevant coloured
stripes pertaining to the skills they have acquired over the term.
Prior to
the grading, the grading advice will be handed out to all members (except Little
Ninjas). This grading advice must be followed correctly including handing in all
relevant and completed material, along with the payment, by the due date. No
grading applications can be accepted after the due date.
Applicants
will be tested on the verbal terminology at the time of handing in their
completed grading application. The written terminology requirements need not be
completed for applicants 6 years and under.
Not everyone will be ready
to grade at every grading - some people can attend training more often than
others and that’s just a fact of life, so please remember (members and parents)
there’s always the next grading.
If you were to attend
training at least twice a week, every week, you would probably grade at every
grading and achieve your black belt within 3 years. Most people take a lot
longer than that, so missing a grading here or there is no big deal. As long as
we don’t quit, we will all achieve our black belt in our own time.
Little Ninjas:
Little Ninjas,
although having stripes awarded to them during the term, do not grade. When a
Little Ninja consistently shows a maturity for grading throughout the term,
they will be offered a position in the white belt junior class and grade from
that class.
Double Grading:
All members, junior
and senior (except Little Ninjas) are eligible to double grade at any time up to
red belt. Members cannot double grade from red belt onwards and there are no
triple gradings what so ever.
If you are
contemplating a double grading please consider; you must attend training often
and consistently, you must develop a high skill level and you must be fit and
well prepared.
All double grading
applicants must be cleared to do so by the Branch Instructor.
Missing
Gradings:
If you find that
you have prepared well for a grading but are unable to attend the grading on the
day, due to injury, prior commitments, or whatever the reason, unfortunately you
will not be promoted for that term but you may double grade at the following
grading providing you meet the criteria.
If you had planned to double grade and could not attend
the grading, you are still only
permitted to double grade at the following grading. Triple gradings are not
permissible under any circumstances.
Grading Schedule:
Gradings are held 4 times a year and are all
three months apart, except from Red 3 stripe to Black which is 6 months
between.
Team Taekwondo Gradings are held on the first
Sunday of the public school holidays each term, with the exception of the
December grading which will change each year depending on how the calendar falls
in relation to Christmas day.
